A little bit
about Milly

Milly Godwin is an accredited International Board Certified Lactation Consultant otherwise known as an IBCLC. The IBCLC credential is the highest qualification in breastfeeding expertise and recognised all over the world.

During my career working as a NHS midwife I developed a passion for infant feeding but also became aware of the huge gaps in breastfeeding support within the NHS due to the pressure on resources, and resolved to train as a lactation consultant. I currently work as a community midwife and BFI champion in a busy London hospital as well as working independently as a lactation consultant (IBCLC). I also volunteer my expertise on a major Facebook group – Breastfeeding and Lactation Support UK.

The benefits of breastfeeding for women and children have been confirmed in numerous scientific studies (Horta, 2019).  Despite these benefits, the UK has the lowest breastfeeding rate in the world and this is strongly related to the lack of breastfeeding support in the early postpartum period (Fox et al, 2015).  Breastfeeding doesn’t have to be all or nothing – even one teaspoon of breastmilk has 3 million germ killing cells! (Witkowska-Zimmy & Kaminska-El-Hassan, 2017).

MilkyStarts’s mission is to support parents breastfeed their babies, whatever the challenges they are facing and whatever their feeding goals are.
